JP Proctor, trainee health psychologist

Coming to an end to my clinical supervision sessions with Alexis Carey as part of my prof doc at health psychology training at Staffordshire Uni.

Really recommend Alexis as a Health Psychology supervisor. I’ve learnt so much from her that’ll continue to use in my practice forever. Thank you.

Dr Brian Apter, Chartered Senior Educational Psychologist

I worked with Alexis when she was managing a psychotherapy counselling service in a network of 4x Pupil Referral Units in England. Alexis demonstrated consistently excellent interpersonal and professional skills with colleagues and clients. She is one of the best therapeutic practitioners I have ever worked with (in 35 years). I would describe her as conscientious, ethically informed and highly organised. She has a clever, qualified well-researched practice that always respected the client whatever their age. Alexis was also an impressive innovator with therapeutic group-work.

Lisa, parent of 14 year old boy

I wanted therapy to help him express himself in a positive way. For him to see himself in a more positive way. To feel he is enough! To feel good in himself and be positive about his future. Understand his thoughts and feelings. Exploring his identity from travelling family perspective, and how he reacts to situations.

Definitely in school he is doing so well now, responding to teachers appropriately and taking a step back when he needs to. At home he connects more with the family and joins in more-takes time too.

It is like he has turned over a new leaf. He is more focused- interested in his work. He still can lose it at times but calms down really quickly and seeks to make amends

Dr Adam Boughey, lecturer in adult nursing, health psychologist and researcher

I, and my colleague, Professor Wilf McSherry, had the pleasure of working with Alexis over the past 16 months on a very significant Research Excellence Framework (REF) impact case study at Staffordshire University. From day one, it was absolutely clear that Alexis was the right professional for this very demanding role as our Research Associate, given her considerable academic and research experience. As Alexis is (currently) a Trainee Health Psychologist (nearing completion of her Professional Doctorate), Prof. McSherry and I knew that Alexis had a very unique combination of professional knowledge, skills, and abilities in respect of research; collecting, collating, and analysing complex information; and reporting to a professional standard. Alexis never failed to meet our expectations and we felt entirely comfortable and confident to allow Alexis the autonomy to manage key aspects of the REF impact case study.

Specifically, Alexis liaised closely with our Research Impact colleagues to enhance the impact of our case study. Alexis was also instrumental in establishing timely contact with high-level professionals internationally, and crucially, maintaining those collaborations to enable their support (testimonials) for the impact case study. Prof. McSherry and I were invariably involved with many other commitments as part of our roles, but we felt entirely confident that the on-going work on the impact case study continued, and Alexis was an absolute key part of that success. Indeed, Alexis excellently balanced the significant demands of this work with her many other occupational and Professional Doctorate demands.

Professor Linda Ross and her Research Assistant, James Turner, for their REF impact case study (University of South Wales) also collaborated closely with Alexis, Wilf, and myself and I know how much they valued Alexis’s input to this work.

I wholeheartedly recommend Alexis, without reservation, as a highly valued colleague and experienced researcher. I would have absolutely no hesitation to work with her again and both Wilf and I thank her very much for her excellent support

It gives me the greatest of pleasure to write this testimonial for Alexis Carey, a Cognitive behavioural therapist and psychologist, whom I've known for many years.

Alexis is passionate about enhancing the ability of children and young people to cope, when they feel life is stressful or painful.

Alexis skillfully combines her extensive academic knowledge and her clinical expertise to provide personalised programmes for children and young people.

Through the use of evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behaviour therapy, Alexis has dramatically enhanced the resilience and coping skills of many children and adolescents in our catchment area.

Alexis has a natural empathy with children and young people, especially those who are sad, anxious or depressed.

I have recommended Alexis to many parents whose children needed expert psychological support and I will continue to do so. I cannot recommend her too highly.

Karen, Parent

I initially met with Alexis Carey on a recommendation of a friend. Having recently separated from my husband I was very concerned about how to help my son. He was very anxious going to meet her at first. However this did not last long. He looked forward to their sessions every week, eagerly coming home to share with me what he learnt and to teach me how to relax through breathing. I was so happy with the support we both received in a very difficult time.

Sile, School teacher

I have found Alexis to be approachable on both a professional and personal level. When I’ve encountered children in my class who were having difficulties at home, I found her advice invaluable. She gave me insights into how a child might be feeling but also outlined practical strategies that I could use and more importantly that the child could use. Alexis has acquired a tremendous knowledge and skill set from the work she does with children, parents, teachers, and various agencies. She is extremely good at listening without judging the other person. Alexis is a practical person who likes to find solutions to problems and her ‘can-do’ attitude is inspiring to others. She is also extremely perceptive when it comes to understanding a person’s character. But most of all people feel really comfortable talking to her and this is because of the manner in which she engages with others.
